कृषि हमेशा से nature के साथ गहराई से जुड़ी रही है, लेकिन modern farming अब तेजी से diesel, coal और fossil fuel-based electricity पर depend होती जा रही है। यह dependence केवल cost बढ़ाती ही नहीं, बल्कि environment को भी नुकसान पहुंचाती है। Climate change के बढ़ते प्रभाव और energy prices के लगातार fluctuation ने यह साफ कर दिया है कि agriculture में alternative energy का use अब option नहीं, बल्कि necessity बन चुका है।
आज का किसान irrigation, machinery, storage और processing के लिए energy पर बहुत ज्यादा निर्भर है। Traditional fuels महंगे हैं, pollution फैलाते हैं और limited भी हैं। इसके विपरीत renewable energy clean, cost-effective और sustainable solution देती है। यही कारण है कि agriculture sector में energy transition की जरूरत पहले से कहीं ज्यादा महसूस की जा रही है।
